A 5-day immersive expedition from the bustling souks of Marrakech to the remote dunes of the Sahara. Traverse the ancient kasbahs of the Draa Valley and experience the true essence of nomadic life.
"The Deep Sahara Exploration" is our most comprehensive southern circuit, designed to give you ample time to discover the diverse landscapes between Marrakech and the deep desert. Unlike rushed itineraries, five days allow us to follow the lush palm oases of the Draa Valley, explore UNESCO-listed kasbahs, and spend meaningful time in the dunes of Erg Chebbi. This journey is perfect for those seeking a slower pace and a deeper connection with Morocco's spectacular southern frontier.
Depart Marrakech and cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n'Tichka pass. We will stop to explore the famous Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage site and the backdrop for countless films. After lunch, we continue to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara, where you will spend your first night in a traditional, peaceful riad.
Today we venture south across the Anti-Atlas mountains into the Draa Valley, Morocco's longest river valley lined with millions of date palms and ancient mud-brick kasbahs. We will stop in Agdez to explore Kasbah Tamnougalt before arriving in Zagora, an ancient caravan town where historic signs still read "Timbuktu 52 days".
We leave the Draa Valley and head east through dramatic, rugged desert landscapes, passing through the stone village of N'kob. We will visit the traditional market town of Rissani before arriving at the towering, golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga. Exchange your 4x4 for a camel and ride into the sunset to reach your exclusive luxury desert camp.
A full day dedicated to the magic of the Sahara. Take a 4x4 off-road adventure around the dunes to visit local nomad families living in goat-hair tents, discover ancient marine fossil beds, and listen to the spiritual, rhythmic Gnawa music in Khamlia village. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon before returning to your camp for another magnificent night under the stars.
After a final spectacular sunrise over the dunes, we begin our scenic journey back to Marrakech. We will take a different route through the breathtaking, 300-meter-high Todra Gorges and the Dades Valley, known as the "Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs." We will cross the High Atlas once more before dropping you off at your Marrakech accommodation in the evening.
