Your Journey
Fes → Cedar Forests → Ziz Valley → Merzouga
Your private guide will meet you at your Fes accommodation to begin the journey south. We cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in the alpine town of Ifrane and wandering through the ancient Cedar Forests to spot wild Barbary macaques. As we pass through Midelt and descend into the pre-Sahara, you will be treated to panoramic views of the Ziz Valley, a massive canyon overflowing with date palms. By late afternoon, you will arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Check into your beautiful luxury desert lodge to unwind by the pool and enjoy your first dinner near the sand.

Deep Sahara: Nomads, Oases & Gnawa Music
Today is a full day of cultural exploration without the pressure of packing your bags. We will take a 4x4 off-road vehicle deep into the black desert to visit a nomadic family living in a traditional woven goat-hair tent. We will share mint tea and learn about their fascinating, enduring lifestyle. Next, we visit an ancient, abandoned French mining village and the lush Merzouga oasis. In the afternoon, we head to the village of Khamlia to listen to the hypnotic, spiritual Gnawa music performed by descendants of sub-Saharan Africa. Return to your lodge for a second relaxing evening.

The Dunes of Erg Chebbi & Luxury Desert Camp
Enjoy a completely free, slow morning at your lodge. You can swim, read, or take a short walk along the edge of the dunes. In the late afternoon, the real adventure begins. You will meet your private camel caravan and trek into the heart of the towering Erg Chebbi dunes. Watch the colors of the sand shift from gold to deep crimson as the sun sets. Arrive at our exclusive luxury desert camp for a traditional Moroccan feast, vibrant Berber drumming around the campfire, and a night sleeping in a lavish en-suite tent beneath a brilliant canopy of stars.

Merzouga → Rissani → Todra Gorges
Wake up early to witness a majestic Saharan sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, we depart the desert and travel to the ancient market town of Rissani, where we can explore the traditional souk (if it is a market day). We then drive westward into the dramatic foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. We arrive at the spectacular Todra Gorges, where you will have ample time to hike and walk through the imposing, 300-meter-high sheer limestone cliffs alongside the river. We will spend the night in a beautiful luxury riad nestled right in the gorge valley.

Todra Gorges → Errachidia → Fes
After a peaceful morning in the canyons, we begin our scenic loop back to the north. We will drive through the desert outpost of Errachidia and cross back over the Middle Atlas Mountains. This alternative return route offers entirely different, panoramic views of the rocky plateaus and hidden Berber villages. We will stop for a comfortable, unhurried lunch along the way before finally descending back into the imperial medina of Fes in the late afternoon, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation.
