A slower, deeply immersive journey through Morocco's dramatic gorges, lush palm oases, ancient kasbahs, and the breathtaking golden dunes of the Sahara.
The 4-Day Valleys & Dunes expedition is the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. By adding an extra day to the classic desert route, we remove the rush. You will have more time to wander through the ancient UNESCO alleys of Ait Ben Haddou, linger in the cooling shade of the Todra Gorges, and discover the hidden palm groves of the Draa Valley. Culminating in a spectacular night beneath the stars in Erg Chebbi, this private tour is designed for travelers who want to truly absorb the magic of Southern Morocco.
Your private guide will meet you in Marrakech at 8:00 AM. We begin our scenic ascent into the High Atlas Mountains, navigating the famous Tizi n'Tichka pass. We will take our time, stopping for mint tea and photos of the traditional Berber villages. By midday, we arrive at the spectacular Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a masterpiece of Moroccan clay architecture. After a guided walk and lunch, we continue through Ouarzazate and the "Route of a Thousand Kasbahs," finally arriving at our luxury riad in the peaceful Dades Valley.
After a relaxed breakfast, we drive to the dramatic Todra Gorges. You will have plenty of time to walk along the riverbed, flanked by sheer 300-meter-high rock walls. Continuing south, the lush valleys give way to the arid beauty of the pre-Sahara as we pass through Erfoud. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, where your private camel caravan is waiting. Trek across the towering, golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset before arriving at your exclusive desert camp for a night of Berber drumming and stargazing.
Wake up early to catch a phenomenal Saharan sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we bid farewell to the desert and travel toward Rissani, the ancient capital of the Alaouite Sultans, where we can visit the traditional souk. We then journey through the magnificent Draa Valley, home to millions of date palms and historic kasbahs scattered along the riverbank. We will reach the peaceful city of Ouarzazate in the late afternoon, where you will check into your luxury accommodation for the night.
On our final morning, we visit the Taourirt Kasbah or the famous Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate. Depending on road conditions, we may take the spectacular, off-the-beaten-path route through the Ounila Valley to visit the crumbling but beautiful Kasbah of Telouet, once the lavish home of the Lord of the Atlas. We then cross the High Atlas Mountains one last time, arriving back in Marrakech by late afternoon to drop you off at your riad.
